We started our bridge ......

Regarding the European K219 Project "International knowledge fair. Sharing good teaching practices" and in which is immersed the Department. Of Technology, have begun the activity for 4º ESO in subject of TECHNOLOGY ROBOTICS, with the construction of the model a bridge, later to automate it using a  Arduino controller board.
The activity has aroused great interest among students, because for most of them are new content and motivates them quite a project to unify electronics and computer control.

The Arduino controller board in your version UNO will be responsible for managing the operation of the bridge and through the software to implement will give the required functionality have been made three groups, and in principle all build the bridge under the same guidelines As programming or automation of the bridge, the general conditions will be common, although students may establish different situations proposals to be solved with the procedures regarding software they deem appropriate. The model is made of wood, although other materials may be used.

The first thing we decided are the dimensions of the bridge and the structural elements that will. The bridge will be bascule, and save a distance of 40 cm. The board will have a width of 15 cm and the frame that holds it will rise 40 cm, the board being to a height of 14 cm above the ground, in one end have a fixed part supported by a triangular structure, and a barrier to control the passage of vehicles. For lifting the bridge will use a small d.c. motor voltage and continuous movement and a broadcast transmission system using pulleys or gears, which collect climbing rope dash barrier to access to the bridge, we will use a servomotor.
Having established the dimensions and the lift system we proceeded to enumerate the various signals and encode process will need to control the bridge. Although everything is subject to possible modification signals basically they depend on the functionality of the bridge. For raising and lowering the bridge computer use two keys to be read from the serial monitor Arduino, and for changing rotation of the motor (up-down), use L239D integrated circuit.
We will have two limit switches to detect the end position of the bridge deck. The system will have a radar, using a suitable ultrasonic sensor for Arduino that signal the position of ships. The access barrier using the servo will be automatic. The system is completed by a number of LED signs that inform every moment of the state of the bridge.
